Trafford Council has reported that it is taking one month of action against anti-social and irresponsible behaviour during Manchester United games, leaving local Conservatives wondering why there is not continuous action throughout the year against match day mayhem.
On Friday 7th of March 2025, Trafford Council announced a month long action focusing on environmental, licensing and parking issues and this comes more than 3 years after local Conservatives urged the council and Greater Manchester Police to deal with the issues plaguing residents on match days such public drinking, public urination, littering and the fake ‘parking attendants’.
Commenting on the council’s announcement, Tracey Haworth, local Conservative activist and Gorse Hill resident said “Outside of match days, Gorse Hill is a great place to live with a thriving community, but residents have to put up with a lot of inconvenience and unpleasantness on match days. Why are Gorse Hill residents being fobbed off with one month of action against anti-social behaviour on match days when the issues last all year round? Surely Trafford Council should be on top of these issues at every match and event rather than just for a month.
“The timing of this announcement is interesting too as there is much uncertainty in the community regarding the Old Trafford regeneration plans, which could result in a larger stadium being located close to resident’s homes and also through homeless residents being housed in the community. Is this announcement an attempted sweetener as part of a wider hidden agenda as to what the council has planned for Gorse Hill and its residents? Only time will tell, but the Labour council needs to understand that the residents of Gorse Hill will always stand up for their own community.
